Swedens Koberg Estate

Sweden's Koberg Estate

10,500 pigs protected by aspirating smoke detector system from Securiton.

Upon discovering a decline in arable land fertility, Sweden's Koberg Estate embarked on an ambitious plan, branching into livestock to generate natural fertilizer and a new revenue stream. However, a significant challenge arose regarding reliable fire detection in the state-of-the-art pig sheds - a hurdle efficiently met by Securiton ASD.

Renowned for its hunting events and Christmas markets, Koberg engages in a multifaceted business encompassing real estate, forestry, plant cultivation, and, following the recent completion of its expansive 13,000 sq. m. facility, pig production. This facility can accommodate up to 10,500 pigs, with a rapid daily weight gain exceeding 1kg. These pigs play a dual role, not only contributing natural fertilizer for cereals but also fueling the company's innovative approach to sustainability. The manure is meticulously processed into biogas, with the digested residue enriching the fields, significantly reducing the need for purchased mineral fertilizers reliant on fossil energy.

The pigsty showcases advanced automation for feeding, cleaning, and ventilation. Despite its modernity, it remains a somewhat dusty environment, presenting a challenge in safeguarding Koberg's investment against potential fires. The choice of Securiton's SecuriSmoke ASD system proved apt, boasting early incident detection capabilities even amidst the dust. Notably, the system efficiently covers extensive areas per unit, all while requiring relatively straightforward maintenance in this demanding setting. To maintain clean pipes, a Blow-out device is tactically employed.

The system was installed by Securiton’s long-term distributor in Scandinavia, Elektroskandia Sverige and their local partner/installer Assemblin. They were able to install the system in very quick time, as the project moved very quickly from concept to reality. This involved Securiton expediting deliveries in record time.

Koberg's pig facility now enjoys enhanced safety with 15 strategically placed SecuriSmoke units, each equipped with approximately 70 meters of sampling pipe. The robust SecuriSmoke ASD 535-3HD, designed to endure harsh environments with its IP class 66 rating, incorporates painted circuit boards on both the centre and the sensor, further fortifying its reliability. In various parts of the buildings, SecuriFire fire alarm panels, coupled with standard multi-detectors, bolster the overall fire protection system.
